The Remarkable Journey of Anita Anand: From CNN Anchor to Canada’s Minister of Public Services
Born in Kent, England in 1967, Anita Anand has dedicated her career to journalism and public service. After getting a degree in law from the University of Cambridge, Anand began her career as a BBC researcher, eventually becoming a producer and reporter for BBC Radio 4. However, it was her time as an anchor and reporter for CNN in Atlanta that really catapulted her career.
In 2003, Anand made the decision to move to Canada with her husband and children. She quickly made a name for herself as a prominent journalist and author, winning awards for her reporting and publishing a successful book on the history of India. But it was her passion for public service that ultimately led her to enter the political arena.
In 2019, Anand was elected as the Member of Parliament for Oakville, Ontario. Just a year later, she was appointed as Canada’s Minister of Public Services and Procurement, making her the first South Asian woman to hold a federal cabinet position. With her background in law, journalism, and her commitment to serving her community, Anita Anand is a highly respected and integral member of the Canadian government.
